Obama gets his gun on
From the Washington Post: Regarding the surge in Special Operations deployments, 'Obama, one senior military official said, has allowed 'things that the previous administration did not.'"
This is either unsettling or impressive, depending on your perspective. The United States is at war with non-state actors, yet its forces move under cover of darkness and delete our (alleged?) enemies often in countries we have not declared war on. We live in troubled times ...

The horror
While both parties speak at length of the environmental and economic devastation of BP's disaster, it's strange that images of birds trapped in the oil slick on the beaches of Louisiana just pull at the heart and sicken the stomach in such a visceral way.

The burger menace!
From the BBC: "Children who eat a Mediterranean diet have a lower risk of developing asthma, but eating three or more burgers a week is linked to a higher risk, research suggests."
I dunno about you, but when I hear or read the phrase "Mediterranean diet", it undoubtedly includes several wine selections.
Wonder what Russia thinks?
Interesting to see if they want their other rival in the region so close to home.

Truman had it easy ...
No need for the Pentagon to undergo lengthy studies and interviews with soldiers and their families. No need for Congress to score political points with their constituents. No, Truman had cojones and he changed the face of America's armed forces while defending the very concept of the U.S. Constitution. That's something that should be memorialized this day.
