Apple's Multitouch Patent Problem?

It's hard to tell if this is just ambulance chasing or if Elan Microelectronics have a solid case. Elan settled a previous lawsuit, re: licensing the company's "patent to the detection of multi-fingers," so it will be interesting to watch.

No one likes a bully

Facebook's decision to threaten a researcher with a lawsuit for creating collected data using their recommended practices and open information just reeks of selective prosecution. (See previous post here. )I guess they just want to do it and charge for it.

The Palin Brand Taints All it Touches

It's not uncommon for TV shows to be made up of prerecorded interviews where the program's host wasn't present. But Fox's marketing department got a ahead of itself by implying that interviews with L.L. Cool J and Toby Keith were done WITH Sarah Palin. Still, in schoolyard terms, the stars in question just don't want her cooties.

The Hatriot Movement

Seems that fomenting violent dissent in the guise of "taking back the country" has become a popular game for Fox News, talk radio and some of the dodgier members of the GOP and the Tea Party "movement." This excerpt from John Avlon's "Wingnuts: How the Lunatic Fringe is Hijacking America" makes for some sober reading.

Cross-Network Commenting is Coming

From ReadWriteWeb: "Two companies outside Silicon Valley say they are the first implementers of a new open source protocol called Salmon, which allows comments to be sent over the walls of one social network to communicate with users of another."

This makes social networks, or "walled gardens" redundant (again) ...

Super-size THIS! Burgers bounced from NATO HQ in Afghanistan

From The Times (UK): "First he banned booze in his Kabul headquarters. Now the notoriously austere commander of US and Nato forces has a new target in his war on terror: ice cream and fast food."

Frank Rich calls out Tea Partiers for who they really are ...

From the NYT: "How curious that a mob fond of likening President Obama to Hitler knows so little about history that it doesn’t recognize its own small-scale mimicry of Kristallnacht."

What's absurd is these people have the gall to think of themselves as "freedom fighters," "libertarians" -- or worse, "patriots" -- throwing off the yoke of "tyranny". It's just a sad, sad indictment of America's GOP and its cohorts, the alleged "conservative movement," that both are so seemingly bereft of ideas.

Whither the UK's The Times and Sunday Times?

From the BBC: "The Times and Sunday Times newspapers will start charging to access their websites in June, owner News International (NI) has announced."

Rupert Murdoch, relatively fresh off his battle with Google, re: listing on the search engine giant, has now taken the matter of the true value of newspapers to the people. Interesting to see if this is the nail in the coffin for The Times, or if people prefer quality journalism over reblogged content from non-MSM sites like this one ...
