Hong Kong Rugby 7s Crowd, Lan Kwai Fong

The herd had thinned by midnight, moving along to Wan Chai.

Let's talk about sex ...

Twitter: The TV Show

From TechCrunch: Launched in Spain, "while it doesn’t exactly have a prime time slot (it’s on at midnight), it’s an hour-long program that lets viewers send in tweets live that two hosts then interact with." Last time I checked, this is called "talk radio" in the States ...

Smell ya later! China gives Google the kiss-off

From CNNGo: "While the West is lamenting the end of Google.cn, China's digerati say, “don’t let the door hit you on the way out”"

Mobile App of the Week: LookTel

Now we're cooking with gas, folks. From the press blurb: "You can use LookTel to automatically scan and recognize objects such as money, packaged goods, CDs, DVDs, and medication bottles, as well as landmarks. Point the device video camera at what you wish to "see" and it will pronounce the name very quickly in clear and easy to understand speech."

I love this kind of tech innovation. Who needs another annoying tweak on Twitter ...

AKA "Scary Spice"

From CNN: "Sold in various flavors in 3-gram bags, (K2 or Spice) consists of herbs that are sprayed with synthetic substances that mimic THC, the high-causing natural chemical found in marijuana."

Just from the description, you know this tastes as nasty as the real thing.

America: Land of the Free

And people appear to be free to completely lose their minds of all rational thought when it comes to Barack Obama.

From The Daily Beast: "On the heels of health care, a new Harris poll reveals Republican attitudes about Obama: Two-thirds think he's a socialist, 57 percent a Muslim—and 24 percent say "he may be the Antichrist."

It's just sad ...

Provocative use of a mash-up to tell a sad story.

Enemy of the State

From Digital Beat: "It’s a surreal idea — the world’s best-known Internet company facing off with the government of the world’s most populous nation. It’s a company versus an entire state."

Surreal indeed. Since when do companies declare economic wars against nation-states? If Google first intended not to do any harm, why did they agree to China's restrictions in the first place? (I know the answer to that question, I'm just being, you know, rhetorical.)

It's just fascinating to watch a company act like a country.

Sunset, A Ma Temple, Macau

It was a long day Sunday, March 21, and Bob and I had been walking around Hac Sa Beach in the morning on Coloane Island, and then much of the afternoon in Macau's Historic District. The temple was closing and they were herding us out when  Bob told me to look up:

Macau's air is a hazy as Hong Kong's, but it does have some add to the whole wonder of the place. A little further down the steps, I saw Mainland China looking like all those ancient paintings and I had to take one more parting shot:

Click on the above image to see it in a larger format, it's pretty cool. More later ...

Cool! Force fields are coming!

From the Telegaph (UK): "A space-age "force field" capable of protecting armoured vehicles and tanks by repelling incoming fire is being developed by British military scientists."

Google vs. China: Now comes the name-calling ...

From the Telegraph (UK): "China has moved to stir up anti-American sentiments ahead of an expected announcement by Google that it will shut down its Chinese search engine."

Hazy shade of winter ...

From the BBC: "Air pollution levels in Hong Kong have reached a record high, prompting government warnings to people to avoid going out."

I would have to agree. It's like Los Angeles in the 1980s and closer to what San Bernardino is all the time. There is a constant haze and you're aware that you're body is covered in a fine layer of detritus at the end of the day. Oh boy! Bring on the summer!
