Baboons and Wine
It's not often the two are referenced in the same story, but as Decanter reports: "An army of marauding baboons has been terrorising wine growers in the Franschhoek Valley region of South Africa, raiding local farms and devouring grapes."in reference to: Baboons wipe out South African grape crops - decanter.com - the route to all good wine (view on Google Sidewiki)

With friends like these ...
From Newsweek: "Biden had come to offer not just friendship, but support (and protection) against Iran—Israel's greatest bogeyman—in exchange for a few concessions from Netanyahu. Instead, he got a finger in the eye."

Did he just say that?

Criminal Networking
From The Smoking Gun: "Department of Justice officials ... note that information gathered (from social media sites) could "establish crime or criminal enterprise" and "prove and disprove alibis."
It seems like it was a PowerPoint presentation, which makes it seem quaint and very "old school."

Hypocrisy in Action, Part Deux
Anti-gay politicians and activists who turn out to be gay just seem so run-of-the-mill nowadays. Like philandering governors or senators -- equal numbers Dem and GOP -- it just seems old hat.
America's political class seem to not only be suffering from the inertia of a politically polarized and partisan process, but even their private lives and escapades are staid and boring.
Still, I guess it's a comfort to know that the adages "the lady doth protest too much" or "physician, heal thyself" still have currency when it comes to really vocal homophobes.

In defense of the realm
From The New York Times: "To the list of the enemies threatening the security of the United States, the Pentagon has added WikiLeaks.org, a tiny online source of information and documents that governments and corporations around the world would prefer to keep secret."
I like these free speech issues, re: right to know vs. national security, mostly because I like to see how the wingnuts respond.
Since wingnuttery falls into several camps, the two largest being Far Right "god, guns and guts made 'merica great!" and Big Government conspiracists, with a weird bit of crossover, I just enjoy watching them roil and convulse about the "constitutionality" of a site like WikiLeaks.org.

I just love this illustration ...
There is something about Chinese socialist realism -- real or otherwise -- that cracks me up.
But I love it even more when Chinese banks re-interpret the form. This is a Standard Chartered Bank campaign:

Hypocrisy in Action
Oddly, a quick search through this blog shows a complete lack of concern about "constitutionality" when it comes to any of the previous administration or the GOP's efforts to undermine the document.

Facebook most popular??! But wait ...
For some reason Hitwise split Yahoo! and Yahoo! Mail into two separate destinations. Taken together, Yahoo and its mail page would be number one. So, is Facebook really the most popular?

Chief Justice Roberts: Partisan?
Taking a page out of the Beck/O'Reilly playbook, the man who forgot the Presidential Oath of Office has spent recent days lamenting how Obama hurt SCOTUS collective feelings during his State of the Union Address. Funny, I wonder if Roberts would have liked Teddy Roosevelt's take on Oliver Wendell Holmes?

Texas: Not just big, but stupid, too.
From the AP: "In almost three days of testimony and emotional debate, the board's far-right faction wielded their power to shape lessons on the civil rights movement, the U.S. free enterprise system and hundreds of other topics. An amendment to ensure that children learn the United States was founded on the principle of religious freedom failed."
