Al Franken in Limbo

When I was a reporter with People I had to interview Al Franken and Arianna Huffington when they were correspondents for Comedy Central's Indecision '96 coverage of that year's election. They appeared in a segment called "Strange Bedfellows" with Franken taking the liberal stance and Huffington his conservative foil.

At the time, I thought Franken was a bit of a pill, whereas Arianna was genuinely funny and engaging. In retrospect, I guess Franken saw comedy as a way to address politics on a larger platform, re: cable TV, but when asked on a personal level, he saw no room for humor as the issues were and remain very serious.

I think he might be taking his time in the Senate to distance himself as much as he can from his tom-foolery past.

This seems kind of obvious ...

A Voice of Reason

Too often in an effort to protect minors from sexual predators -- real or perceived -- adults and those in position of authority are in complete denial of the sexuality of minors, in how they come to understand themselves as well as their peers. To quote one of the great minds of the 20th Century: "Sex. Practiced by many. Perfected by few."
